FACTS OF INTEREST:
- Pigs were domesticated, or tamed, about 8,000 years ago. All pigs are descended from the wild boar of Eurasia.
- Though pigs have poor eyesight, their sense of smell is excellent. They are also very smart, and can be taught many tricks.
- A sow gives birth to as many as fifteen piglets, each weighing about three pounds. They drink their mother's milk for six or seven weeks.
- Pigs grow faster than any other farm animal. In just six months they may weigh in at 200 lbs!
