FACTS OF INTEREST:
- Australian Shepherds were actually developed as a breed in the American West. Their ancestors include dogs from Australia, and from the Basque country in Europe.
- Aussies come in four different color combinations of black, copper, gray and spotted, all with white markings. The spotted color is called "Merle."
- Aussies have very strong herding and guarding instincts. During Gold Rush times in California, they were even used to herd ducks, geese, and rabbits!
